UN Report — Another Record of Horror: 12 Years of Silence Instead of Action. Ukraine Once Again at the Epicenter of Genocide as the International Community Watches Silently

An explosive UN report on the sharp rise in civilian casualties in Ukraine sparks outrage: instead of real help — only words. The organization that was supposed to guarantee security has been merely documenting crimes for 12 years without stopping the aggressor. Who will be held accountable?

UN Report — Another Record of Horror: 12 Years of Silence Instead of Action. Ukraine Once Again at the Epicenter of Genocide as the International Community Watches Silently

The UN Records Deaths, But Doesn’t Save Lives: What the New Report Really Shows

On June 30, 2025, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights published a report that should have shaken the world. But after four years of full-scale war and twelve years of Russian aggression, the international community once again confines itself to dry reports — with no real sanctions, no justice, and no protection for Ukrainians.

Shocking Statistics: Over 5,000 Casualties in Six Months

From December 2024 to May 2025:

  • 968 civilians were killed,

  • 4,807 were injured.

This is a 37% increase compared to the same period the previous year. These are not just statistics. These are children, women, doctors, bus drivers. These are people who will never return home.

Russian Missiles and Drones — Main Tools of Terror

Most of the casualties occurred due to air strikes. In at least three instances, Russia used cluster munitions, which explode in the air, scattering deadly fragments. Direct hits on hospitals and buses — these are not “military targets,” they are war crimes.

The UN Sees but Does Not Act

The UN mission confirms:

  • A drone strike on a bus in Dnipropetrovsk region killed 10 people,

  • 5 hospitals were targeted by Russian forces,

  • 207 civilians were killed by drones,

  • 1,365 were injured in drone attacks.

But where are the sanctions? Where is the tribunal? Where is the clear declaration: “This is genocide”?

Brutality in Captivity: Systematic Torture

Descriptions of torture of Ukrainian prisoners of war in Russian captivity are medieval in nature: electric shocks, rape, beatings, dog attacks, humiliation — systematically and often carried out by masked personnel.

Meanwhile, Russian POWs also report abuse by Ukraine. But the key difference is scale and intent: Ukraine conducts investigations; Russia institutionalizes torture.

"Abandoned Homes" — A Scheme to Steal Ukrainian Property

The UN documented another occupation scheme — confiscation of so-called “abandoned” homes by Russian authorities. Over 16,000 houses are at risk of illegal seizure, with displaced Ukrainians facing legal, logistical, and safety barriers to return.

Recruitment of Children: Terror Through TikTok

Russia is recruiting Ukrainian children for sabotage missions — coercing, deceiving, or luring them through social media. This isn’t just a war crime — it’s a deliberate destruction of the nation’s future.

 Why This Report Sparks Outrage

The UN calls things by name — but doesn’t change the situation:

  • In 12 years — not a single real resolution to protect Ukraine.

  • No motion to expel Russia from the Security Council.

  • No military intervention or security guarantees.

  • Only reports, monitoring, and concern.

The Ukrainian People Deserve the Truth

While civilians die, homes are destroyed, and children are exploited, the UN issues calls for “compliance with international law.” But where was the UN in 2014? In 2022? Where is it now?

We don’t need more observers.
We need protection, action, and justice.

Conclusion

The UN report is another mirror of tragedy. But if the international community continues to remain silent — that silence becomes complicity.

Twelve years — enough to understand that the UN does not protect, it only counts the dead.

? It’s time to rethink global security. And to demand action, not words.
