International Data Corporation (IDC) has presented a fresh forecast for the global market for personal computing devices (Personal Computing Devices, PCD) for the current and subsequent years. IDC data takes into account the supply of traditional personal computers (desktop systems, laptops and workstations), as well as tablets and two-in-one devices with a detachable keyboard.
It is noted that stagnation is observed in the global PCD market. Its volume this year will increase compared to 2018 by only 0.5% – up to 407.7 million units.
A little more than a quarter (26.3%) of the total supply will be tablets. Another 23.0% is desktop systems, including workstations. The share of ultra-thin laptop computers will be 20.0%. Traditional laptops and mobile workstations will occupy 18.4% of the market. Finally, 12.4% will be gadgets of the category “two in one.”
In subsequent years, a decline is projected. So, the CAGR indicator (average annual growth rate in compound interest) in the period from 2019 to 2023. will be at minus 2.6%. As a result, in 2023 the global market for personal computing devices will decrease to 366.7 million units.
