The other day, Kiev has become the heart of the gamedev industry throughout Eastern Europe. The largest conference for game developers Games Gathering 2019 was held here.

Nearly 3,500 professionals visited her, ready not only to exchange experiences, but also to change the industry. In particular, at a special meeting moderated by one of the most prominent companies participating in the AB Games conference, they considered the creation of a gaming industry association in Ukraine.

In addition, more than 100 speakers shared their professional tips and cases for Games Gathering 2019. 80 stands of major developers and beginner indie studios were also presented. So, for example, at the Ubisoft stand it was possible to dance, and the representatives of GSC Game World could feel the atmosphere of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2.

We also note the central booth of the conference from AB Games, made in a fabulous style. Here you could take a picture with a chic princess, play puzzles and participate in the prize draw, which attracted many visitors.

The event featured Google, Snapchat and a whole block of small stands of indie developers who create their projects on the Unreal Engine.

Tips from the creators of the universes Diablo, Marvel, Star Wars and Hidden City
As part of the lecture block at Games Gathering 2019, Ukraine was visited by real stars of the gaming and related industries, who shared their own valuable experience.

In particular, the creator of Diablo and Diablo 2, David Brevik, told the participants of the event about the history of the creation of the legendary series. David also attended lectures by his colleagues, eagerly signed autographs, and agreed to a selfie with all visitors.

Jama Jurabaev, a top concept designer who worked on creating movie characters for the Marvel and Star Wars universes, voiced several life hacks for working on large-scale projects. You can’t do without them when your regular customer is Steven Spielberg.

What should artists know or be able to? Do not be afraid to try, experiment, use all new lotions and technologies, because they can greatly simplify your work.

According to him, against the background of the development of artificial intelligence, the artist, as a profession, will not go anywhere.

One of the speakers was also Anton Bolshakov, founder of AB Games with offices in four cities of Ukraine – Kiev, Dnipro, Kharkov and Rivne. The company is known for its Hidden City game, which is played daily by millions of people around the world.

Anton said that since childhood he dreamed of creating unique, nothing like worlds and how these dreams helped him successfully work on games such as S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Cossacks and Hidden City.

I have been creating games for more than 20 years – and each new game is not like the other. Players are changing, developers are changing, the rules of the game are changing. Now my company AB Games is creating one of the top f2p games – Hidden City. Our team has more than 120 professionals who like to develop and play games, like me, live what they do. Gamedev association: to be or not to be?
Within the framework of the conference, a working meeting of representatives of game development companies was held, at which they discussed the creation of a gamedev association in Ukraine and a plan for further activities to develop the industry. The meeting was moderated by Ivanna Pogrebnyak, CEO of AB Games, a company that acted as the diamond partner of the conference.

One IT specialist creates four jobs in other related areas. But the IT direction is still incomprehensible to the average Ukrainian. The industry must grow up. Many people know about what high-quality IT products are made in Ukraine abroad, but very little in our country. That is why we must come together to develop the industry. In general, Games Gathering 2019 turned out to be rich and rich in various experiences, interesting cases and development stories of popular games. It is nice that the Ukrainian gaming industry does not stand still and takes leadership positions in new genres for itself, such as Hidden Object.
