Today, on January 12, during the overcoming of the seventh special stage of the Dakar rally, 40-year-old motorcyclist from Portugal, Paulo Gonçalves, died.
At 10:08 local time, the race organizers sent a helicopter to the scene. Within 8 minutes, Gonçalves was discovered. The athlete was unconscious, physicians ascertained a cardiac arrest. As soon as possible, the Portuguese was taken to the hospital, but resuscitation measures did not bring any result. Gonçalves has passed away.
After six stages of the current Dakar, he occupied 46th place in the overall standings. For the Portuguese motorcycle racer, it was already the thirteenth Dakar.
