The Presidential Commission of the American Heart Association (AAS) published the results of a new study, during which experts formulated a rule that is fundamentally important for health and protection from early death.
It sounds like this: to become a healthier person, you need to replace saturated fats with unsaturated ones, writes Medicine 2.0.
According to data published by AAS, replacing butter and other saturated fats with vegetable oils reduces the likelihood of suffering from heart disease by 30%. The principle of replacing saturated fats with unsaturated ones can help people do without statins - drugs to lower cholesterol, American cardiologists are convinced.
This conclusion was made after analysis of the latest scientific data and the results of extensive research on the effects of saturated fat intake and their replacement with other types of fats and carbohydrates. Scientists stated: while the replacement of saturated fats with carbohydrates does not bring a positive effect on health, their replacement with unsaturated fats can prolong life.
The main sources of saturated fats are dairy products (primarily with a high percentage of fat content), pork and beef, as well as tropical oils (coconut, palm). According to scientists, the proportion of these fats in the diet of modern people is too high for such a diet to be considered healthy. First of all, according to them, this is due to the fact that people consume large quantities of convenience foods and food from catering establishments.
Unsaturated fats that cardiologists recommend eating include polyunsaturated fats and monounsaturated fats - such as olive oil, various nut butters, fish oil, linseed and sunflower oils, and lard.
