In order to find out the reasons and features of the strange phenomenon, NASA decided to send three research missions to the North Pole at once.
The first mission, called the Cusp Region Experiment-2, will directly investigate the atmospheric phenomenon itself, which is located at an altitude of 300 kilometers.
Scientists note that the air density in this zone is higher than average, therefore, if the anomaly were lower than now, it could cause hurricanes with record power.
Now the atmospheric anomaly at the North Pole is a threat to satellites, communications, and spacecraft.
The second mission has already begun work at the North Pole. It is called Cusp Irregularities-5, and will be studying the anomalies and the causes of harmful effects on the operation of the equipment.
CHI is NASA's third mission. She will be sent to the North Pole to carry out the necessary measurements of the magnetic field. This will help scientists learn how to predict the effects of anomalies and in the future avoid communication failures.
